The book argues that artificial intelligence places everyone in a condition once reserved for the samurai: deciding, acting and carrying the consequences with no time to deliberate. In that world, it contends, discernment, restraint, honour and mastery through repetition become more valuable, not less.
Drawing on the Hagakure of Yamamoto Tsunetomo and Inazo Nitobe’s Bushido: The Soul of Japan, the book treats Bushidō as a practical framework for leaders navigating agentic AI, generative AI and automation. Graham writes openly as an outsider to the tradition. He is Jamaican-born and London-based, and the book includes a dedicated section on authenticity and cultural appropriation.
